Snow and wind warnings have been issued for Richmond and Metro Vancouver tonight.

A  special weather statement warning of snowfall tonight was issued around 3:30 p.m., as heavy flurries fall across Metro Vancouver, calling for 5 centimetres of snow late this afternoon.

According to another statement from Environment Canada, there will be winds of up to 70 to 90 kilometres per hour tonight.

“Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur,” reads the statement.

“High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions due to high winds.”

According to the statement, a deep low pressure system will move across Vancouver Island tonight. Ahead of this low, southeast winds will develop in Greater Victoria before spreading across to Metro Vancouver and the Sunshine Coast.

Sometime late overnight or Thursday morning, the winds will “shift abruptly to the southwest,” before easing Thursday morning.
