A 16-year-old boy is being probed by the Philadelphia Police Department (PPD) in connection with this week’s Twitter threat to Vancouver Airport.

On Monday afternoon, Richmond RCMP warned that it was investigating a social media threat to YVR, although all airport operations were running as normal.

Since then, officers from Richmond RCMP’s Technological Crimes Unit and the Mounties’ YVR detachment have been working with the PPD’s Homeland Security Unit.

“We have determined that the social media based threats had originated from a geographic location within the United States,” said Richmond RCMP’s Cpl. Dennis Hwang.

“At that point, we coordinated with our colleagues (in Philadelphia). We are currently working alongside their investigators.

“A 16-year old male is currently under investigation. The social media threats were not deemed credible. The safety of Canadians and travellers alike at YVR is always taken very seriously.”
