One of the bodies found in Richmond last week has been identified as a 26-year-old man.

Police revealed on Friday that the body found last Monday wrapped in a sleeping bag on the banks of the north arm of the Fraser River, near Milltown Marina, is that of Richmond man Justin Pauwat Chan.

And following an autopsy, Vancouver Police (although the area is technically in Richmond, it’s partly serviced by Vancouver) said that the circumstances surrounding Chan’s death were suspicious.

However, the VPD has indicated that Chan was targeted and there’s no threat to public safety.

Anyone with information is asked to call the VPD Major Crime Section at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 1-800-222-8477.

Meanwhile, Richmond RCMP has yet to release any information about the body that was pulled from the south arm of the Fraser River last Tuesday, June 7.

Mounties had been called after a report of a body seen floating in the river, near the Massey Tunnel. According to police, the body was recovered with the help of Canadian Coast Guard.

Information on the sex or approximate age of the body is not yet known, along with whether or not there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
