IHIT have been called to the 22000-block of Rathburn Drive in the Hamilton area after two people were found dead inside a residence following a house fire.

Homicide detectives have been called in after two people were found dead following a fire that tore through an east Richmond home early Friday morning.

Richmond RCMP said they were called to the 22000-block of Rathburn Drive – near Chaldecott Drive and Turner Street in Hamilton – around 4:45 a.m. to help with traffic control for a structure fire.

Two people were later found deceased inside of the residence and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) was called in to help with the investigation.

IHIT said it believes the case is a double homicide.

“At this time, the two victims have not yet been identified.  IHIT investigators are working hard to further this investigation, identify the victims and locate next of kin,” said IHIT Det. Lara Jansen.

A second scene in Surrey is also believed to be linked to the homicide investigation, said Jansen. Shortly after the Richmond fire, a burned black BMW SUV was reported near 16 Avenue and 194 Street in Surrey.

“We are asking anyone with CCTV, dash cam video or information related to the homicide or the burned BMW SUV to contact IHIT.”

Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to call the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-4448 or email ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
