A truck driver was caught driving almost three times the speed limit in Richmond on Saturday morning.

Richmond RCMP's Road Safety officers pulled over a dump truck and trailer combo when it was caught going at 127km/h in a 50km/h construction zone on Knight Street.

"Even in ideal conditions, at this rate of speed, it would take 3+ city blocks to make an emergency stop," said Richmond RCMP in a Twitter post.

The truck was impounded and the driver was issued an "excessive speed violation" ticket.
