For many, Valentine’s Day is a day of being loved and wanted, but for some being “wanted” has a different meaning.
Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers has released their annual list of top 10 “least-wanted Valentines,” but “most wanted” criminals and suspects for 2021, which includes Conor D'Monte, who is wanted for murder.
D'Monte has been wanted for allegedly murdering a high-ranking member of the Red Scorpions gang in 2009 and a reward of $100,000 for his whereabouts has been extended since 2019.
The crime-fighting organization said in a media release on Monday, Feb. 8 the criminals on their top 10 list could be “far away, or in your neighbourhood.”
Rewards of up to $5,000 are given for tips that lead to the arrest and charge of any wanted criminal.
Crime Stoppers has also partnered with the national Be On the Look Out (BOLO) program to provide extra-large rewards of up to $100,000 for this year’s top three most wanted. The three are D'Monte, John Norman Mackenzie, who is wanted for being unlawfully at large, and Cong Dingh, who is wanted for money laundering.
“Some of these fugitives have been missing for a year or even longer, and with four million pairs of eyes around the province, someone should eventually spot one of them,” Linda Annis, executive director of Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers, said in the release.
“Tips work. We received more than 5,000 anonymous tips in 2020 leading to 72 arrests and 125 charges laid. Twenty-one of those arrests came from tips specifically about gang or illegal gun activity.”
