1. Super jumbo touches down: Sunday May 1:

Plane spotters will not want to miss the touch down of a really big bird Sunday when British Airways begins its new daily service featuring the double-decker A380 super jumbo. The event will mark the first regularly scheduled A380 service for Vancouver and will be the only scheduled A380 service in all of western Canada.

Nine years ago, Airbus first brought the 469-passenger behemoth to YVR as part of its test flight schedule. The largest commercial airliner in the sky, British Airways’ A380 features a first class cabin with 14 luxurious suites.

The A380’s arrival time is scheduled for 6:45 on the south runway.

2. Mega Youth Night: Sunday, May 1:

Richmond’s newest community centre, City Centre Community Centre (5900 Minoru Blvd.), is hosting a Mega Youth Night May 1 from 8 p.m. – 11 p.m. Ages 13 – 18 can try different activities, such as glow-in-the-dark dodge-ball, capture the flag, pool, air hockey, karaoke and more! Come out, be active and have fun! Contact Loryn at llegear@richmond.ca or (604)204-8571 for more information.

3. Purple Rain screening: Monday May 2:

Cineplex Events announced this week it will be celebrating the life of music legend Prince with a special, cross-Canada screening of the musician’s iconic 1984 film, Purple Rain. Locally, the screening will take place at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 2 at SilverCity Riverport Cinemas. Tickets are $6.99.

Cineplex Events will donate $1 from every ticket sold to MusiCounts, Canada’s music education charity associated with The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS).
