The City of Richmond is hoping to reopen the 10-metre tower and slide at the Terra Nova Rural Park playground for the Victoria Day long weekend.
City spokesperson Ted Townsend told the Richmond News the city has secured a company to replace the vandalized portion of the slide.
The slide was declared unsafe in January after vandals cut safety netting that prevented children from falling from the top of the slide.
The city is hoping a new, stronger material to replace the netting will make such vandalism more difficult.
When asked, Townsend said there are no plans to install security cameras at the park, which is in a relatively remote area of Richmond.
The May long weekend is only a stated goal, however, and it may take longer for the slide to reopen.
