Before a new City Centre block party is finalized, city councillors want more details as to the sponsorship agreements, costs and overall plan of the Richmond World Block Party, which may take place on Labour Day weekend.

The party's concept was drummed up internally by Jane Fernyhough, the city's director of Arts, Culture and Heritage Services.

Typically, new events are first referred by council, which then reviews the plan and subsequently spproves it.

Councillors raised concerns over funding and the overall benefit to the community, according to committee notes.

Designed as a "multicultural" celebration, the party would feature food trucks, a main performance stage and themed activities, such as dancing, arts and crafts and sports competitions.

Initial costs of the party are pegged at $170,000. It would take place at Lansdowne Centre's parking lot or Minoru Park.
