The City of Richmond no longer accepts cash at City Hall.

Richmond property owners need to remember to pay their property taxes by July 2.

Late property tax payments will result in a five-per-cent fine, and if the outstanding amount is not paid by Sept. 2, an additional five-per-cent penalty will be added on.

If a portion of taxes is covered by the Home Owner Grant, the application for the grant needs to be submitted in time as well to avoid penalties.

Payments can be made online or in person through one's financial institutions or by credit card through the MyRichmond portal.

In-person payments at city hall can also be made by cheque, debit and credit cards during business hours Monday through Friday, from 8:15 a.m. to 5 p.m.

City hall will be closed on Tuesday, July 1, for Canada Day.

City hall is no longer accepting cash, and mailing a cheque is not recommended this year due to potential postal delays, as postmarks will not be accepted as the payment date.

The City of Richmond mailed tax notices to all owners on May 15, noting that due to possible postal delays or service interruptions, some residents may not have received their notices yet.

All property owners in Richmond are responsible for property tax payments and applicable penalties, regardless of whether or not a tax notice is received.

Those who have not received their notice are asked to contact the city's tax department at 604-276-4145, visit Richmond City Hall in person with photo ID to request a copy or access their online MyRichmond portal account.
