Over 950,000 Canadians will be able to file their tax returns by phone this year.
Canada Revenue Agency announced Monday that individuals with low or fixed incomes that are unchanged year-to-year will be able to file their income tax return by answering a series of questions on the agency’s File My Return phone service.
Eligible individuals will receive personalized invitation letters starting mid-February.
The CRA also announced that taxpayers who have filed using paper forms will now receive a tax package by mail. Previously, Canadians needed to visit a post office or Service Canada to get tax forms.
Diane Lebouthillier, Minister of National Revenue said they understand the challenge of doing taxes.
“CRA is working to make it easier and simpler to find, complete and file a return,” she said in a press release. “The new services we are now providing are more user-friendly and convenient, especially for Canadians with low or fixed income.”
