Suspect arrested after alleged stranger assault on No. 3 Road in Richmond

Police responded on Wednesday night to an alleged stranger attack on No. 3 Road.

Richmond RCMP arrested a suspect after an alleged stranger assault on No. 3 Road which involved a weapon.

On Wednesday, Aug. 13, RCMP responded around 10:30 p.m. to a call of an assault with a weapon at a shopping centre parkade on No. 3 Road between Park and Cook roads. A security guard had heard the commotion and had intervened in the incident, according to police. 

When Mounties arrived, the suspect was arrested without further incident.

The victim was transported to hospital and is currently in stable condition, according to the RCMP.

Police added the suspect and the victim didn’t appear to know each other.

“We want to commend the security guard for his quick thinking and actions that played a key role in assisting in this investigation and ensuring the suspect was arrested,” said Supt. Julie Drotar, Richmond RCMP Senior Operations Officer.

“We recognize how concerning an incident of this nature can be to the public. We want to reassure our community that our officers are prepared to respond to any call for service 24/7, 365 days a year.”

The suspect is in custody, and police say there is no ongoing risk to the public.
