Don’t let the sunshine trick you as cold winds are in the forecast for Richmond and across Metro Vancouver this week.

A mix of sun and clouds are expected for the entire week with temperatures reaching a high of 7C during the day and a low of negative 10C at night.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement on Sunday morning that cold Arctic air will be moving throughout B.C.

The special weather statement is in effect for:

  • Metro Vancouver - central including the City of Vancouver Burnaby and New Westminster
  • Metro Vancouver - North Shore including West Vancouver and North Vancouver
  • Metro Vancouver - northeast including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge
  • Metro Vancouver - southeast including Surrey and Langley
  • Metro Vancouver - southwest including Richmond and Delta

Cold Arctic air is being pushed southwards across the B.C. Interior and toward the B.C. coast for the remainder of the weekend.

B.C. will experience cold air throughout the province by Monday and “persist for the remainder of the week,” the statement noted.

Temperatures for coastal areas will be five to 10 degrees below seasonal average and interior regions will be 10 to 20 degrees below average.
