Strong winds in the forecast for Richmond on Friday

Winds of 70 km/h will hit Richmond and Metro Vancouver this afternoon, Environment Canada warns.

A wind warning is in effect for Richmond and much of Metro Vancouver Friday.

According to Environment Canada, a “vigorous frontal system” will be approaching the South Coast this morning, bringing winds of 70km/h and heavy rain to the region.

The wind warning is in effect for Richmond, Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, Surrey, Langley and Delta.

Southeast winds of 70 km/h will develop this morning over exposed areas of the Sunshine Coast, central and northern sections of East Vancouver Island, the Southern Gulf Islands and Greater Victoria this morning, according to Environment Canada.

Those winds will then spread to the exposed areas of Metro Vancouver and southern sections of the Howe Sound this afternoon.

The winds will ease and shift to 40 km/h late this afternoon or early this evening.

High winds may toss loose object, cause injury or damage or cause tree branches to break, states Environment Canada.
