A stolen long service medal that belonged to a retired Burnaby firefighter has been returned.

A Burnaby firefighter’s stolen medal was found during an ongoing investigation in Richmond.

Richmond RCMP executed a search warrant in the 8900-block of Cooper Road on Sept. 9 as part of an ongoing break-and-enter investigation and discovered the stolen medal.

According to police, the long-service medal belonged to a Burnaby firefighter and was stolen from his son's Richmond residence during a break-and-enter in 2018.

Investigators tracked down the son of the long-retired firefighter and returned the medal.

“The family of the rightful owner is very happy to have the medal returned to them,” said Cpl. Ian Henderson, spokesperson for the Richmond RCMP.

”The rightful owner’s name was engraved on the medal and this certainly helped investigators connect the dots, so to speak.”
