In the wee small hours of Saturday, there’s something very special taking place for many people of British extraction.
On a little corner of Steveston, there will be a particular buzz in the air as the owner of the Best of British store celebrates the coronation of King Charles III.
Granted, store owner Lenny Entwistle will not be up at 3 a.m. to watch the crown being placed on Charles’ head.
But she has decked out her British-themed store, on First Avenue at Chatham Street, with as much coronation paraphernalia as she can get her hands on.
And she is bringing in a big screen to play the coronation on a loop via YouTube so like-minded ex-pats can share the moment with each other.
Coronation cupcakes for Royal fans
“No one is coming to the shop at 3 a.m. and I’m working that day so I won’t be up at that time to watch it,” laughed Entwistle.
“We will have coronation cupcakes to give away and cherry liqueurs, that kind of fun stuff. Most people I’ve spoken to seem to be all for it.
“Everybody that has been coming in is getting up to watch it at 3.”
Entwistle believes Charles will be a “great king,” noting that he’s “done his time. He’s done a lot for the environment.”
She said lots of people have been coming into the store to get their hands on decorations and British food for their parties.
But she said she is still waiting on actual coronation souvenirs, as “they won’t release them until there’s a photo of a crown on his head.”
