Richmond residents are making a call for everyone to vote for their favourite neighbourhood in the final battle of Metro Vancouver's "best" neighbourhood competition.

Steveston and Mount Pleasant neighbourhoods are going head-to-head in the CBC competition for the crown and bragging rights and the deadline is approaching fast.

Many Steveston residents and Richmond councillors, including Coun. Kelly Greene and Coun. Harold Steves, have taken to social media platforms to remind people to vote.

“My mother was born and raised in Mount Pleasant, my father in Steveston,” said Steves in a Twitter post.

“My mother chose Steveston. That’s the rest of the story.”

Matt Pitcairn, president and CEO of the Richmond Chamber of Commerce, also posted on Twitter that it is “time” for Richmond to take the crown.

“How can Mount Pleasant possibly compete with this heritage and natural beauty,” said the post.

A total of 192 neighbourhoods participated in this year's contest with more than 450,000 votes cast during the duration of competition.

While Steveston is known for its cannery, harbour and its village, Mount Pleasant is known for its vast array of breweries, cafes and restaurants.

Voting ends at midnight on Monday, Aug. 24 and the winner will be announced on Aug. 28 on The Early Edition.
