Showers, flurries and chilly winds are in the forecasts for this weekend.

Richmondites will have to brace for a chilly weekend.

Environment Canada is warning of a wintry mix of precipitation, strong outflow winds, cold temperatures and wind chill this weekend.

Precipitation is expected to fall as light flurries or showers on Saturday, and 2 to 4 cm of snow is expected across the region with snow accumulating over higher terrain in Metro Vancouver.

An arctic front from interior B.C. will be moving across the south coast on Saturday night through Sunday, bringing a period of heavy flurries. Almost 5 cm of snow might be expected over Metro Vancouver. However, the timing is still uncertain, according to Environment Canada's special weather statement.

Strong outflow winds with the passage of the arctic front on Sunday will then bring in cold arctic air, resulting in temperatures falling 5 to 10 degrees below the seasonal average.

Richmondites are advised to monitor updates and alerts from Environment Canada and prepare for changing road conditions and cold temperatures.
