Sex assault in Richmond sparks police probe

An 18-year-old girl was allegedly, sexually assaulted in the early evening of last Friday, as she walked along a street in a residential neighbourhood.

According to Richmond RCMP, the teenager was walking alone, northbound on Ash Street towards General Currie Road at around 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 7.

As she approached the Paulik Park Community Garden, she was allegedly approached from behind by an unknown attacker, who pushed her to the ground and forcibly, sexually assaulted her.

The girl managed to fight off her attacker and eventually escaped.

The suspect is described as male, five feet, 10 inches to five feet, 11 inches tall, wearing dark pants, dark dress shoes and a dark puffy jacket.

“We have a team of seasoned investigators working on this case. We are still active in the area, conducting comprehensive neighbourhood canvassing and analyzing video surveillance footage,” said Richmond RCMP’s Cpl. Dennis Hwang.

“Our Victim Services Unit has been instrumental in this very delicate time.”
