Former Hugh Boyd student and star footballer Brenden Carriere was accused of serious sex assault charges

All charges related to an alleged sexual assault – that involved a former high school football player from Richmond - have been dropped.

Brenden Carriere was among three members of McGill University's football team in Quebec facing sexual assault charges in April 2012.

Carriere played for the Hugh Boyd Trojans between 2006 and 2009 and was named junior provincial MVP in 2006.

The former members of the university’s Redmen football team were charged by police for allegedly sexually assaulting and forcibly confining a female Concordia University student inside an apartment.

The alleged incident dated back to September 2011, when, according to reports, the three men met the alleged victim and another woman at a bar and went back to the players’ apartment.

However, in November, 2014, at the Montreal courthouse, the three McGill University students were cleared of all criminal charges against them.

Prosecutor Miguel Boisvert announced to the court at the time that he had received “new information over the weekend” that forced him to withdraw the counts.

“A witness the defence was asking for was found, and she made a statement that our clients have made since the beginning,” defence attorney Deborah DeThomasis said.

“The sex was consensual.”
