An elderly woman drove into a townhouse in Richmond at about 6: 30 p.m. Sunday, severing a gas line and forcing the evacuation of several of the building's occupants, according to RCMP Insp. Al Ramey.

The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle and hit the building in the 6100 block of Woodward Road.

Several units in the building were evacuated as gas was leaking and it posed a safety risk.

Terasen Gas arrived on-site to shut off the gas and fix the ruptured line.
