There’s no shortage of up-and-coming golfing talent in Richmond and 16-year-old Daniel Xu is evidence of that.

Daniel, out of the Richmond-based Tour Development Academy, most recently won the BC Juvenile Championship for the province’s top players age 16 and under.

The McRoberts secondary student won the title in Kelowna after a tense play-off against Victoria’s Maguire Lines.

Daniel shot scores of 72-68-73 to take him into the play-off, which went three holes before he ended up making a par for the win.

“This would be Daniel’s biggest victory so far,” said his long-time coach Nathan Leonhardt, who’s been with Daniel since he was nine and has travelled around North America with him for tournaments.

“He’s currently looking to see where he’d like to go to college and continue his golf career.
“I went to college for golf and then on to play professionally, so it’s fun to watch him continue in my footsteps.”

Prior to lifting the BC title, Daniel won another junior event in California in July, put on by the Southern California PGA Junior Tour, where he shot scores of 69-69 (-2) and won by six shots.
