Richmonds Miss Universe Canada hope is hosting a fundraising evening to celebrate some of B.C.s finest artists.
A collection of the provinces most talented singers, dancers, poets, actors, photographers, gymnasts, and musicians will gather April 5 for PassionArt to support Kamilah Sturton and her chosen charities.
A $15 admission will cover the performances at the Magee Theatre, door prizes, food and drink.
And money raised on the night will go towards Operation Smile (which carries out medical procedures for children in developing countries) and the Canadian Cancer Society.
After taking several weeks to decide on her big fundraiser, ballet dancer Sturton a St. Joseph the Worker, MacNeill and Magee secondaries and a product of the Richmond Academy of Dance veered away from traditional easy money events.
I wanted to do something that spoke to my platform, to my passions, my charities and the community, said Sturton.
I chose to have an evening celebrating creativity and art, showcasing some of B.C.'s finest artists.
Sturton said shes never used her contacts in the industry for anything on a large scale and wanted something that connected to the audience.
I just about have everything in place, all I need now is an audience.
And one of the prizes is a pair of River Rock Club tickets for the Canucks, but you need to buy your PassionArt tickets before April 3 to have a chance.
This is my sole fundraiser so Im hoping to get as many people there as possible.
The News told earlier this month how Sturton, 21, ended up swapping, by chance, professional ballet dancing for one of the countrys leading beauty pageants after injuring herself while preparing for a national tour.
Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. show on Friday, April 5 at the Magee Theatre, 6360 Maple St., Vancouver can be ordered online at https://kmsturton.ticketbud.com/passionart.
A small number of tickets may be available at the door on the night.
