Now in its 16th year, Richmond’s annual Lulu Series kicks off tomorrow as artists, experts and design enthusiasts from across Metro Vancouver will gather for evening talks.
The series will begin with a conversation with Michael Henderson titled “Social impact through design: How curiosity transformed our practice.” Henderson, of HCMA Architecture + Design will explain how out-of-the-box collaboration and engagement can lead to social impact. Henderson will be joined by harpist Janelle Nadeau, who will give a brief performance prior to his talk.
On April 5, Darren O’Donnell of Mammalian Diving Reflex will talk about the inclusion of children in social engagement projects through a talk titled “Haircuts by children and other evidence for anew social contract,” and how this can be a powerful disruption to social and economic inequality. Amarjeet Singh, an award-winning table player, will give a short performance before O’Donnell’s talk.
Later on in May, visual artist Germain Koh will present on “The D.I.Y city: Valuing the unplanned” and her current work where she constructs small homes that explore her concern for unplanned shelter. Nouveau flamenco and Latin jazz guitarist Dave Mortone will perform before Koh.
All talks are free and will be held at city hall at 7 p.m. To reserve a seat, email [email protected].
