Richmond's $127K bike parkade closed for upgrades

Software upgrades will offer quicker access to the storage: City of Richmond

The $127,500 bike storage outside the Minoru Centre for Active Living is currently out of service due to software upgrades.

Clay Adams, City of Richmond spokesperson, told the Richmond News the upgrades will improve the existing security access process, which previously caused challenges to users.

“These changes, when done, will enable riders to access the storage quicker, more securely and on a regular basis without the need for assistance from staff at the centre,” he explained.

The MAZDome bike storage was built by Mazdis, a Metro Vancouver-based company, and includes storage space for accessories while offering protection from theft and vandalism.

The issue of the storage facility’s shutdown was raised by community members in a recent Reddit discussion, but Adams said it has “operated regularly” since the Minoru Centre for Active Living fully opened in 2020 until the recent shutdown.

The bike storage is expected to reopen in a few weeks.
