Richmond residents with ideas for the province’s new Chinese Canadian museum are invited to attend one of two community meetings this weekend.

On Saturday, Feb. 2, the public is welcome to share their own vision for the brand new museum at a public consultation held at the Richmond Public Library’s Brighouse Branch.

The museum is part of a bigger project created by the province and the City of Vancouver, which aims to have Vancouver’s Chinatown designated as a World Heritage site of the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

“The contributions of early Chinese immigrants, and their descendants, touch every corner of our province. We're working to honour this legacy and protect historical sites for generations of British Columbians to come," said Premier John Horgan in September.

Preliminary research has been completed and the province is now consulting with community members on how best to recognize key stories in the shared experience.

Feedback is also being collected online here or by email to [email protected]. Information about all community meetings including how to register for one can be found here

All the feedback will be considered in the early stages of planning the museum.
