Despite having only seven players on the roster – and one of them just returning from a broken ankle – the Richmond-based Air Attack 15U volleyball team defied the odds at the 2022 Nationals in Edmonton.
The boys stumbled into the tournament with a short bench and, unsurprisingly, lost every single set on the first day.
However, they regrouped and crawled back into the competition, playing a different system and learning new positions on the fly.
That was the “TSN turning point” for the boys, who won all of their sudden death play-off games that day, en route to the tier 2 gold medal game.
Unfortunately, Air Attack simply ran out of gas, with one player having to be helped off the court.
But, as well as coming home with a silver medal, the team shot up the national rankings by 18 to get into the top 10 in Canada.
