A community forum focusing on the current opioid overdose epidemic in the Lower Mainland is being hosted in Richmond on Wednesday, Nov. 16.

In a bid to help people understand the issue, Richmond Fire-Rescue along with BC Emergency Health Services, Richmond District Parents Association, Richmond RCMP, Richmond School District and Vancouver Costal Health (VCH) are partnering to provide the town hall event from 7 to 8 p.m. at Richmond Secondary.

The forum will consist of a 30-minute presentation, followed by a question and answer period with the panel of representatives from the aforementioned agencies.

“According to (VCH), over 500 people in the province of British Columbia have died as a result of drug overdoses since the beginning of 2016,” said Richmond Fire-Rescue deputy chief Kim Howell.

“(The) majority of these deaths were associated with fentanyl, which is why this forum is so important for Richmond residents.”
