Richmond thrifters search for clues to vintage fondue pots

A Richmond News paper offered insight into a donated item.

Like historians or archeologists, thrift store workers look for clues to help identify the age of the “artifacts” that show up in their donation box.

A recent clue came from the newspaper some fondue pots were wrapped in – this one being a Richmond News paper from 1998.

It seems that was when its owner decided to wrap it up and put it aside, but the vintage seems to go back to the “fondue craze” of the 1960s and 70s, determined the staff at the Richmond Hospital/Healthcare Auxiliary Thrift Shop in Steveston.

Another fondue set, yellow in colour, is “vintage Dansk,” a post on the thrift shop’s Facebook page explained.

Dansk was an American fondue pot brand that became popular in the 1960s.

“Time for a fondue or hot pot party!” the thrift store post declared.

The Richmond Hospital/Healthcare Auxiliary Thrift Shop is at 3731 Chatham St. in Steveston.

Proceeds help buy medical equipment and support patient programs at Richmond Hospital, Minoru Residence and Lions Manor.
