Richmond’s annual Cherry Blossom and Seedy Saturday events have been cancelled amid coronavirus (COVID-19) concerns.

The two events have been cancelled following announcements from federal and provincial health agencies to cancel large events to help limit the spread of COVID-19.

On Thursday, B.C. health officials all event organizers in the province to cancel all events with more than 250 people, which included indoor and outdoor events, conferences, meetings and religious gatherings.

And on Friday, the federal government said large events should be cancelled.

Kim Decker, city spokesperson, confirmed with the Richmond News that the annual Cherry Blossom Festival has been cancelled in light of Dr. Henry’s announcement.

Meanwhile, a Twitter post on Friday morning stated Seedy Saturday has been cancelled.

“Sorry to report that Richmond’s Seedy Saturday event, which was planned for tomorrow, has been cancelled. Bee safe everyone,” said the post.
