James Whiteside Elementary has been chosen as a winner of a national contest for its essay submissions describing how the school would benefit from an inclusive playground, which will bring children of all abilities together.

Whiteside will receive $15,000 towards inclusive playground equipment supplied by Landscape Structures Inc., in partnership with the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) Foundation.

The new equipment will replace the schools currently outdated and limiting playground, and will provide all students with access to an exciting playground as an extension of their rich, inclusive classroom learning environments. The new equipment will enable students of all levels and stages of development to use the playground as a place to learn, play and grow together.
