Consultation on a strategic plan for the Richmond School District is starting with students first – part of this consultation even includes getting the perspective of high-school dropouts about the school system.
The Board of Education plans to create a strategic plan for the school district with input from a wide variety of stakeholders.
A report to the board from district superintendent Scott Robinson notes consultation started with students because “ultimately, the school district primarily exists to provide educational services to this group.”
Feedback will be collected from specific target groups, for example, special needs students, Indigenous students, adult education students, international students and those “who have left the system without graduating.”
The school district will also seek feedback from all its employees via an online survey, consult directly with principals and vice-principals and other management, put out an online survey for parents until mid-February and then consult with stakeholder groups at its annual stakeholder dinner, asking for feedback on its draft plan.
Furthermore, it’s recommended that the City of Richmond, Vancouver Coastal Health and the RCMP be allowed to comment on the draft plan before its approval by the board of education.
