There were 48 new COVID-19 cases detected in Richmond in the last week.
So far in Richmond, 482 people have tested positive for COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.
This increase in test-positive cases comes as the Richmond Assessment Centre moves to a larger facility, from Minoru Boulevard to just outside the airport, and doubles its testing capacity to 650 tests per day.
More staff is also being added to the new Richmond testing facility, which will open on Saturday.
This is the first week since the BC Centre for Disease Control has been reporting numbers for Richmond weekly that the number of cases in Richmond has exceeded 40.
Dr. Bonnie Henry, the provincial health officer, reported 594 new cases across the province in the last 24 hours (Nov. 11-12) and 536 new cases in the prior 24 hours (Nov. 10-11) .
There are 155 people in hospital across the province, of which 44 are in intensive care.
Of the 1,130 new cases detected over the past two days across the province, 249 were in Vancouver Coastal Health and 808 were in Fraser Health.
Dr. Henry said on Thursday the vast majority of cases are local cases or clusters, for example, from group celebrations and group fitness classes. This led to new two-week bans on indoor group physical activities and restrictions on social gatherings to only family groups that one is physically close to.
The new Richmond Assessment Centre, opening Saturday, is located at 5911 North Service Rd. in the jetSet parking lot (at the intersection of Aviation Avenue and North Service Road).
