Richmond is one of the many municipalities receiving upgrades to roads, cycling paths, and walkways funded by TransLink and the provincial government.

TransLink has announced a $130 million investment into upgrading local infrastructure throughout Metro Vancouver for 2022. Of the 107 projects announced, nine will be in Richmond.

Multi-use paths will be constructed or upgraded on Garden City Road, No. 2 Road, and River Road, and other projects include providing a protected bike lane on Sexsmith and Brown Roads, and improving safety measures at the intersection for Cambie and No. 4 Roads.

TransLink is contributing around $4.7 million in total for the nine projects.

Funding is delivered through TransLink's Municipal Funding Program, where TransLink contributes up to 75 per cent of funds for upgrades that benefit the local government. Projects "improving the efficiency of bus operations or some priority cycling infrastructure" are 100 per cent funded by TransLink.

The program is part of the 2022 Investment Plan, and funding comes from both TransLink and the B.C. government.

Since 2017, TransLink has invested around $6 million for 20 projects in Richmond, including $250,000 for a new traffic-separated cycling and walking path along No. 6 Road.
