There were fewer break-ins in Richmond last year, according to the latest data from Richmond RCMP.
In a report going to Richmond city council’s community safety committee on Feb. 15, Mounties said residential break-ins dropped by 27 per cent last year compared to 2020.
“This (residential break-in) decrease has been partially attributed to the successful targeting of crime groups responsible for these offences in 2020,” the report reads.
The Richmond News has reached out to Richmond RCMP for more information about the investigation into that crime group and will update this story when information becomes available.
According to the report, there were 33 residential break-and-enters in December 2021, a 14 per cent increase from November 2021 and a 30 per cent drop from December 2020.
The report notes that the 33 break-and-enters are “within the expected range.”
December 2021 also saw 34 commercial break-and-enters – more than double the number reported in November 2021 and a 36 per cent increase from December 2020.
No patterns or trends were identified, according to the report, however, this number is also within the expected range.
The number of commercial break-ins in 2021 also dropped 13 per cent compared to 2020. This is within the expected year over year amount.
