Video: Richmond RCMP looking to identify arson suspect

Do you recognize this man?

Richmond RCMP is asking for the public's help to identify a suspect who lit the front door of a home on fire.

Police responded to a Richmond home along Bryson Place, near Cambie and No. 4 roads, after receiving a call of a "suspicious fire" around 3 a.m. on Mar. 27.

The 23-year-old man at the home reported an "unknown man" pouring flammable liquid on the front door, lit it on fire, and then left the area.

There was minor damage as the resident put out the fire himself, said RCMP in a media statement.

The suspect was captured on video surveillance and is described as a middle-aged Asian male wearing a dark-coloured surgical face mask, glasses, a baseball cap with a rectangular logo and a long-sleeved, hooded puffer jacket with an inscription on the upper left chest of the jacket.

He may also be associated with a four-door, dark-coloured compact sedan, possibly a Hyundai or Toyota Corolla, according to Richmond RCMP.

Anyone with information is asked to call Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 and quote file number 2023-9289 or anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
