Thirty-four violation tickets were issued over the course of a three-hour operation, according to Richmond Mounties, who say road blocks are operating throughout December.

“Unfortunately, despite everything that’s happening in the world around us, we are still seeing people driving without any regard for the safety and wellbeing of themselves or other motorists,” said Cpl. Peter Somerville with Richmond RCMP’s Road Safety, in a statement.

In addition to the 34 tickets issued, Mounties impounded four vehicles. Some of the offences included driving while prohibited, a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition (IRP) and two suspensions under section 215 of the Motor Vehicle Act.

Richmond RCMP are working with Metro Vancouver Transit Police to operate the road blocks this month.

“People need to get the message,” said Somerville.

“We are out there and committed to keeping our roadways safe. If you aren’t going to follow the law then you may find your car being towed or end up arrested and in the back seat of our police car.”
