What was seen as another strange "parking job" in Richmond was actually an accident.

Richmond resident Henrik Laursen came across a car ontop of an island at Seafair Shopping Centre on Saturday morning (Aug 20).

While Laursen didn’t see how the driver ended up on the island, he found the incident concerning that “drivers like this” are on the roads in Richmond.

However, another shopper and a witness of the incident said it was an accident that left the driver and her young child embarrassed.

"It was an accident and the owner did take full ownership of it," said the witness.

"She was not parked there to go shopping."

The witness added that BCAA had been called to remove the vehicle from the island and the owner of the vehicle left immediately after.

Not one appeared to be physically injured.

Laursen said he hasn't personally seen similar incidents "like this in a long time," but was told by others this was common around the city.

He told the Richmond News that drivers need to take responsibility for incidents such as parking illegally and driving dangerously in B.C.

“I would not be opposed to a substantial fine, as well as cancellation of (their) driver’s licence and driving privileges for 12 months,” said Laursen, adding these types of drivers should be required to get re-tested or go through driving school once again.

“They should have no privileges to be on our roads if they drive and park like this in our city.”
