Richmond News wins gold in Newspaper Excellence

The Richmond News received gold in Newspaper Excellence at the annual B.C. & Yukon Community Newspaper Association’s Ma Murray Awards on Saturday.

The Richmond News received gold in Newspaper Excellence at the annual B.C. & Yukon Community Newspaper Association’s Ma Murray Awards on Saturday.

Judges praised the paper for its “front page that grabs your attention, and sleek, interesting design and layout throughout.”

“The Richmond News is unique in leading with an op-ed and letters, which seems to tell readers it is THEIR paper, THEIR VOICE,” judges wrote.

“Strong reporting with lots of well-rounded local content…the paper also has a great and unique website, supplemented by social media. A well-rounded publication that is succeeding on every level.”

The News was also a finalist for its election night coverage in the Multimedia Breaking News Story Award category and received silver.

“Election day coverage was bolstered through the ingenious use of a Facebook Live discussion providing viewers/readers with immediate colour commentary,” judges wrote.

The Ma Murray awards are held each year to celebrate achievement amongst member community publications across the province.
