A photo of a memorial for a man who died under the Oak Street Bridge has been nominated for a Ma Murray award.

A memorial under the Oak Street Bridge for a man found dead in a burnt tent was the subject of a Richmond News photo nominated for a Ma Murray award.

The B.C. & Yukon Community Newspaper Association announced its nominations on Friday for articles, photos, special features and advertisements submitted by community newspapers across the province and the Yukon.

Acting editor Maria Rantanen's photo, of a memorial at the burnt tent site, was nominated in the Feature Photo Award category.

"Nowhere to grieve" is the title of the photo and story that tells of the man's girlfriend who herself was homeless and struggling to find a quiet place to grieve the loss of the "love of my life."

The Ma Murray awards ceremony will be held on April 20 when the winners will be announced.
