Richmond RCMP have arrested a schoolteacher for an alleged drug-dealing offence.
The teacher, who works in the Surrey School District, is now facing drug charges after allegedly conducting a hand-to-hand drug transaction near an elementary school in Vancouver.
Eugenio Alfonso Bahamonde, 41, has been charged with trafficking and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
On Nov. 7, officers from Richmond RCMPs Property Crime Unit & Quick Response Team were in Vancouver in relation to an ongoing investigation. A vehicle approached the area, being watched at the time by plainclothes officers. The officers watched as the driver of the vehicle appeared to make a drug transaction with a pedestrian.
The driver was also seen smoking what appeared to be marijuana.
The vehicle the drove away only to be pulled over in a neighbouring parking lot, where the driver was arrested and issued a 24-hour driving prohibition.
A search of the car then revealed marijuana and evidence of drug trafficking.
At the time of the arrest, Bahamonde told officers he was a schoolteacher. He will return to court on Jan. 16.
