A Richmond Mountie is making a habit of rescuing and relocating “children” in varying forms of distress or displacement.
The officer in question, Const. Dawn But (pronounced “Bute”), didn’t hesitate when she responded to a recent call of “children” reportedly in trouble.
Last Thursday, July 6, shortly before 7:30 a.m., But was called to the 8500 block of Cook Road, where a group of ducklings had “allegedly” wandered off from their mother and became trapped in a deep drainage pipe.

Although a high-angle rescue team was considered, But acted quickly and was able to safely rescue the 14 ducklings and re-unite them with their mother.
According to police, no imprinting (adverse contact with humans) was observed and the mother duck appeared grateful to accept her children back into the family. The ducklings were apparently shaken, but otherwise unharmed by the ordeal.

This is not the first But has been called into her new animal whisperer role.
Earlier, in May, she assisted with the relocation of three goats that had been “unlawfully at large” in the No. 2 and Moncton Street area of Richmond.
