The Richmond School District’s Mandarin program is celebrating 15 years this Saturday and the public is invited to come to the party.

Since its launch in 2004, the Mandarin Language Studies program, put on by Continuing Education, has grown into the largest Mandarin program in the Lower Mainland with 60 conversation and reading-writing classes for students starting as young as four. The program enrols about a thousand students every year.

In addition to learning Mandarin, the students learn about Chinese culture and history as well.

Salina Leung has been the program supervisor from its start and she said the program attracts students from diverse backgrounds - her oldest student is 84 and is studying Mandarin with plans to travel soon to China.

Information and registration for Mandarin classes is available at www.RichmondCE.ca or by calling 604-668-6532.

The 15th anniversary celebration takes place on Saturday, June 8 at Richmond Secondary from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. The celebration will include student presentations, certificates of recognition and a slideshow. The public is welcome to attend.
