A pedestrian has been struck at Steveston Highway and No.1 Road.

An elderly man was sent to the hospital after being hit by a vehicle in Steveston on Tuesday afternoon.

The 78 year old was crossing No. 1 Road, on the south side of Steveston Highway, when he was hit by a vehicle turning right onto No. 1 Road.

According to the Richmond RCMP, the pedestrian was sent to the hospital with minor injuries and in stable condition during their last report.

"Fortunately, the elderly pedestrian was not badly injured, but it could have been much worse," said Cpl. Ian Hendetson, spokesperson for the Richmond RCMP.

"This incident serves as a reminder to drivers to slow down and watch for pedestrians when turning at busy intersections."

The driver of the vehicle was issued a violation ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian under the Motor Vehicle Act of B.C., Henderson added.
