A man has been arrested after apparently stealing a landscaping truck in Richmond and then crashing it into a nearby ditch.

Richmond Mounties were called to the 8000 block of Spires Gate, near Westminster Highway and Cooney road, around 11:40 a.m. on Thursday, with a report of a theft of a gardener’s vehicle.

Upon arrival, police found the vehicle in a deep ditch with significant front-end damage.  The suspect driver was still on scene when police arrived.

As a result, a 48 year-old Vancouver resident was arrested and taken to hospital for treatment for undisclosed injuries and has since been released from custody.

Charges have not yet been laid and the investigation, say police, remains active.

Police are asking anyone with information or evidence of the incident to contact them.
