3,400 Richmond kids are taking part in the Summer Reading program at the Richmond Public Library.

As part of Summer Reading Club each year, the Richmond Public Library encourages children to let them know what they think of the books they’re reading by writing book reviews.

The Richmond News publishes these reviews throughout the summer.

Four Richmond library patrons – ages five to 10 – summarized the books they’re reading and gave their review of them.

Batman: All-Terrain Trouble!

Book author: Bon Kane with Bill Finger

Reviewed by: Monie, 5

Summary by Monie: “This book is about Batman trying to catch bad people or villain. The bad man’s name is Clayface! There is also a gang of crooks, stealing money from a bank. Batman was trying to catch the crooks and beating Clayface.”

Book review: I like Batman because he is a superhero. And I like the drawing of the book.

The First Cat in Space Ate Pizza

Book author: Mac Barnett

Reviewed by: Hana, 7

Summary: This book is about a cat going to space to save the moon from rats that are eating the moon.

Book review: I don’t like this book because there was a riddle and the cat answered it as “meow” and you don’t know what the answer is.

Scaredy Squirrel at the Beach

Book author: Melanie Watt

Reviewed by: Karen, 8

Summary: This book is about Scaredy Squirrel going to the beach. He makes his own beach but he realizes that something is missing. So he makes a plan to go to the REAL beach and actually had fun!

Book review: I like this book because it is funny! My favourite part was when Scaredy Squirrel took a risk and went to the real beach. He was surprised that when he got out, there was a HUGE crowd! But, he ended up having fun with the huge crowd.

Wings of Fire: The Missing Heir

Book author: Tui Sutherland

Reviewed by: Mila, 10

Summary: This book is about a missing heir named Tsunami. She is a seawing. She is also part of a prophecy to stop a long war.

Book review: I like this book because it was well detailed and included funny parts and clear planning. I liked how she was reunited with her mother and sisters, Anemone and Baby Auklet, and Queen Coral. It was exciting and action filled, with adventure and a hint of humour.
