The first baby born at Richmond Hospital this year and this decade – born early on Jan. 1, 2020, at 2:52 a.m. – was described by his father, Janali Khodadad, as a “gift” and a welcome addition to the family.
The baby boy, who weighed just under four kilograms at birth, evens out the number of children in their family to three boys and three girls, Khodadad explained.
“We are so happy – all my kids are excited,” he said. “This is a great gift for us.”
The family had a few names picked out, but they landed on "Matin."
Fatima Merzayie gave birth to baby Matin at the hospital where she’s had all of her children.
Khodadad said the hospital was “fantastic” and he praised the doctor and nurses for their hard work to make the delivery go well.
With no complications, Merzayie was able to go home the same day to be with her family.
Khodadad said baby Matin looks like his oldest son.
The Richmond family will celebrate later with a special party for family and friends as is their tradition, he added.
