What does a troubled young vampire and a lost Polish town have in common?

They are both short animated films (ranging between five to 10 minutes in length) by some of Canadas top animators.

These and more will be shown across the country and here in Richmond as part of Get Animated!

This is a free National Film Board of Canada event, and its been going on in Richmond for two years now, said Ying Wang, founder of Cinevolution Media Arts Society, who brought the festival to Richmond. There will be free screenings shown of new animated films by Canadian filmmakers.

Last years festival attracted close to 200 people and Wang believes that number will rise this year.

The workshop was really well attended, it was standing room only in the Media Lab, added Wang. It was very inter-generational and inter-multicultural and we had grandparents and parents creating animated movies with their kids and grandchildren.

Get Animated! will feature some of the funniest new short movies by famous animators. Around the world, Canadian animators have a good reputation.

Theres a fun line up for children, added Wang. For the 10+ crowd, the films shown will include Nightmare at School, Rose & Violet and Hothouse 7: The Big Swing.
