A distillery in Richmond has applied to the City of Richmond to extend its hours to serve alcohol.
Deep Blue Distilleries on Cedarbridge Way, between Elmbridge Way and Lansdowne Road, is asking to extend its liquor service hours Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to midnight and Sunday from 5 p.m. to midnight.
The gin and vodka distillery is currently open and serving customers until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Deep Blue Distilleries is also asking for an amendment to their existing retail licence to add a new lounge area, which will allow them to serve up to 30 people at once.
A letter of intent in the application states that adding a lounge will give patrons a more welcoming space to enjoy the locally crafted products adjacent to their retail space.
"At the same time, we recognize the importance of maintaining our retail operations, which have allowed us to connect with our community and share our products directly with customers," said Paul Doroshenko, president of Deep Blue Distilleries, in the letter.
"By retaining our retail section alongside the lounge, we aim to offer a complementary experience that supports both on-site enjoyment and take-home purchases."
Extending hours to serve alcohol and adding a new lounge will help the owners serve their clients and community better and would "add greater flexibility and experience" to the business's clients, according to a city staff report.
This will be addressed at the general purposes committee meeting on July 7.
