Richmond Devils off to perfect start

A perfect weekend in the capital Region has the Richmond Devils alone in first place after week one in the South Coast Women’s Hockey League.

The Devils swept the Island Surge in a pair of games, winning 3-0 Saturday night at the Panorama Rec Centre then posting a 6-2 victory Sunday morning at the Esquimalt Arena.

Devils netminder Jenna Ehling turned aside 17 shots in Saturday’s game to earn the first shutout of the season.

Deanna Mohr opened the scoring a couple of minutes into the second period, but Richmond was unable to add to their goal total until the final minute of play.

Sidney Brown netted the second Devils goal with 47 seconds to play, then Lauren Miller scored into an empty net with 19 seconds left on the clock.

Sunday morning in Esquimalt, Miller paced the Richmond attack with three goals and an assist. Emily Chau, Melissa Phillips and Kelsey Wagner also tallied for the Devils.
